Just yesterday, I had 3 and a half peanut Ang Ku Kueh’s at one go. Yes, we all get cravings, and sometimes it could get really weird. There’s a reason behind your food cravings (unless it was so darn delicious), and knowing why you get it could help you avoid binge eating that tub of ice-cream at 12am!

You’re either undergoing a lot of stress or you’re really upset. Eating chocolate releases the happy hormones, serotonin and dopamine, which makes you happy when you eat it. A study done among women in the US found that dark chocolate eases emotional stress.
So how? : Go for a quick 10 minute sprint or skip non-stop. Have a snack with 70% dark chocolate and some good dose of protein and fibre like a macritche midnight.

So how? : Have enough foods rich in calcium like dairy, soy milk, dark leafy greens (spinach), pumpkin seeds and beans

Are you a fat-phobe? (afraid of fats) You’re probably not eating enough good fats and omega-3 fatty acids from healthy sources like salmon, nuts, olive oil, etc. Or if you’re a fat-lover, it’s not a craving but an addiction!
So how? : Don’t restrict your healthy fat intake, have a handful of heartstrong nuts, avocado, and fatty fish (tuna, salmon)

It’s not very common to crave for protein rich foods, but if you do, your body might be low in iron or protein.
So how? : Lean meat (chicken, beef), spinach, beans, soy bean. Oh and you have to get this naked protein trail mix!

There’s a legit reason why we Southeast Asians love our chilli. Eating spicy food temporarily increase our metabolism, which helps us to sweat and cool us down in the TERRIBLY HOT weather. Hmm, maybe munching on chilli while walking under the heat might be a good idea…
So how? : What how? Unless the doc said you can’t have spicy food, let me fuel your inner spicy-loving tastebuds with this low calorie Tom Yum snack.
Ice-cream and sweets
Who doesn’t love sweets?? Our bodies are programmed to love sweets because sugar is the most basic form of energy for our body. And if we don’t get enough sleep, we’re going to want it even more.
Here’s exactly why we crave for sweet stuffs ALL THE TIME!!
So how? : Do not (I repeat), NOT give in to a huge chocolate bar, it will only make things worse because you’ll feel even more sluggish and tired. A handful of fruits and natural dried apricots will work much better, or if you really really must, share that chocolate with your friends *AHEM* give them the remaining calories 😉

Story of my life – I need to have nuts almost everyday or my day isn’t complete. Sometimes it’s because our hunger was mistaken as thirst, or you might not be eating a well-balanced diet and your body lacks a few nutrients.
So how? : Drink a glass of water and wait for 10 minutes before snacking. Have small portion sized snacks below 200 calories!
